I have shopped at this store on about a dozen or so occasions. I was thrilled with the service, selection, and quality at first. The location is near my office, so it was an easy on­the­way­home stop. However, in recent weeks, I’ve been convinced never to shop here again, for a couple of reasons. They have a tiered product selection, as do many dispensaries. However, they’ve recently had very few items in their “Tier 3” (read: affordable) range. I am happy to pay a premium price for a premium product, but this leads to my second complaint: ALL of their products are pre­packaged. This absolutely BAFFLES me. In a city that prides itself on individuality and cool experiences, I find it very odd that this company wants to run like a pharmacy. When you walk into the back room, you can see nicely displayed glass jars full of product. Everything looks good and fresh. Then you place your order, and the budtender (more like “cashier”) reaches in a DRAWER and pulls out a pre­filled container. Part of the excitement of this whole thing these days is the experience itself. Older generations had to secretly pass money and goods behind closed doors, with questionable quality. We don’t have to do that anymore­we’ve evolved! I want to stand at the counter and have a conversation with a budtender while they measure out my product and place it nicely into the container. I want to see and smell the product. Granted, they’ll pull the jars down from the shelf and let you examine and smell the product, but that’s NOT the product going into the container. (Also, the Tier 3 products are ONLY prepackaged... literally, they have clear glass jars of black plastic packages. WHAT?!) You won’t know about the quality of the actual product you purchased until you leave the store and it’s too late to change your mind or return it. I’ve come home on several occasions and found my product to be dry, or to have very small buds. This is not something I would have chosen from a jar. If I had a budtender talking me through a selection and had me smell and check out a bud like that, I would very likely opt for something else – it might even result in an up­sell to a higher, more expensive Tier, which would benefit them! I would opt for something a little fresher, a little moister, and with bigger buds. Very disappointing all­around, and for these reasons, I will not be going back unless they change to an all “live” experience with fresh product.

Location is wonderful, Budtenders are friendly, and the product is always top notch. The atmosphere brings a bit of class to a industry that is lacking class in general. It's not to see Budtenders that take their job seriously and want to help you find the product you need. 10/10 keep up the great work guys!

The people working at New Amsterdam been extremely helpful and are always great: friendly, cheerful, thoughtful, helpful, knowledgeable and patient- especially valuable to me as I come back to life from a very near-death fall recently. I like to think I have made a few new friends here. Great leaf as well in general, and always good about recommendations and ideas. I'm a media producer and developer by trade, so the face of a place becomes an indelible part of the brand for a business like this - and your staff are all doing a great job. I always look forward to coming back soon. Like today! Ahhh, wait, Friday afternoons you're CLOSED! Sigh... that's a tough one for a person who's antsy and active Friday eves - but I understand and respect the many views and cultures in our great big beautiful world, and it just means I'll be back Saturday or Sunday ;) Slaìnte va, Ben

What a great dispensary. This is the best one I have been to since October! I was helped by Autumn, what a sweetheart, she was so knowledgeable... if I was her boss I would give her a raise! She pointed me in the right direction of the perfect bud that I needed at a super affordable price. Need I say more? You could tell she was a weed nerd but a super sexy one! Thanks Autumn I will be back soon. (and its only 3 blocks from my favorite Korean grocery store to stock up on my munchies!) Regalia!

This is one of the best dispensaries I’ve ever been to. Great atmosphere, great selection and great displays of the product. Genevieve and Gwendolyn are both super helpful and nice as well. Will definitely continue to be a repeat customer!

Absolutely one of the best places to go when searching for quality at the best price. The staff is amazing. Super knowledgeable and some of the friendliest I have found. This is my recommended place to visit. And if you're lucky you can see some of the regulars that bring in their awesome pets as well, like some sugar gliders.

I started coming here in August because I recently moved to Portland from Colorado and saw the billboards for cheap 1/8ths. It was a little out of my way but I kept coming back because I had the most excellent service from the morning crew which was Christopher and Aunna. They both knew me by name and always made me feel so welcome and they both carried so much knowledge. Since hearing they both got fired because of a new manager, this place has become a joke. I'm certain I can speak for a lot of others who came early just for those two, I will not be supporting this business any longer.

I don’t consume much myself, but I was looking for alternative options for my mom, who has pain and inflammation related to auto-immune problems. Genevieve was very helpful, asked tons of questions and curated a great selection of potentially beneficial products. My mom was particularly happy with the ointment and bath salts. She was super friendly and clearly very knowledgeable about the dispensary’s available offerings. Will absolutely be returning. Thanks Genevieve!

Third visit in. And once again the attitude was terrible. If they weren’t the only carrier of the strain I like I wouldn’t come back. The budtender was just plain rude and short. As a medical patient (or any customer for the matter) it’s very frustrating when your budtender won’t discuss a strain with you and just treats you like crap. Products are great, shop is great. But very hit or miss with the budtenders and their attitudes.

Everybody who works here is really helpful. They always let me know when deals are going on. I live nearby so it's super convenient with pretty fair prices.

I don't like the set up with the outer office and the inner Sanctum. to me it just feels creepy. to make matters worse the last time I went here I was given a bad recommendation. of course in the end it's all a matter of taste.

Just left the New Amsterdam. My total came to 60.29 I had 60.28. So they counter guy says " I'll take one cent off of the bud" I said, " really!", he replies "I'm cheap like that". He then cuts open the little foil/plastic bag, that had to cost the owner more than $.01, and empties the pot back onto the scale. I turned to people in the store and asked if anyone had one penny. got it gave it to the guy and he proceeds to use a new bag to put my weed in. I pointed out the bag prob cost more than .01, he said he hadn't thought of that. Seriously, dude needs to learn about customer service, I buy there at least once a month and spend about 60-80 $ each time. to the sore owner: I recommend better staff training.

Gwendolyn was so helpful. Came in with my parents looking for recommendations. My dad is ill and we weren’t quite sure what we needed. She was so kind and patient with our questions and helped us find a great solution. Would definitely recommend and will certainly revisit.

Gwendolyn was incredibly helpful on my visit today. I live around the block and have visited this location several times and never have complaints about the service here though! The selection is great and they have a neat rewards program for return customers. Highly recommend checking this spot out!

i wanted to like this newer spot, but found several issues: So dark I could not see/ growers not listed on packaging/ Indica or Sativa? My biggest issue was the poor quality of the Afgooey I purchased. Very loose, leafy, twiggy; roughly half was not smokable. There's a learning curve to buying weed. Sometimes the strain matters much less than the grower. Figure out who the great growers are and stick with their products- that's my advice.
