Etain - Medical & Recreational Cannabis Dispensary NYC

This was my very first visit to a dispensary! And since this is the first review here, I'll try to be fairly thorough. After extensive research on the few options in NYC, I was sold on Etain's quality claims. Especially their vape oil, which they claim is the only additive-free medical cannabis oil in the state. Pure CO2 extraction. (By the way: As of late 2017, the actual plant is still forbidden, even as medicine. The stock photos in many NY medical marijuana resources are misleading. We can only have a limited range of extracts. Not even edibles! But they allow capsules. Hmm. It's a start.) I happened to visit Etain at a slow time, so there was no wait. Everyone from security to the pharmacist was very courteous and helpful. The atmosphere is somewhere between a Park Avenue pharmacy and a SoHo art gallery. My purchase was the small "Forte" vape oil cartridge. This is their high-THC variant, which includes a touch of CBD for balance. The pharmacist assured me that all the plant's other terpenes are in there, too. They included a free battery with a slim, hard case with custom molding to also store the charger piece and a cartridge. The design is mostly white and magenta, very bright and flowery. Not my style at all, but this is medicine, not a fashion show. Worth noting nonetheless. As for the medicine itself: I feel wonderful. My PTSD is more under control than ever. This product is good for me during the day. Moderate doses do not make me sleepy, and indeed perk me up. But even most sleepy strains, which the pharmacist suggested may be the dominant component here, don't make me very drowsy. They often wake me up! This may be helpful information, since NY currently allows only five "strains" per dispensary, with even a restriction on colorful names. So you have to wonder which strains are being extracted. We can only go by the effects. Although I can't resist trying the other dispensaries in my area soon, I suspect Etain will always be the one to beat.

I'm a huge fan of etain. First off, their tinctures are elegant, tasty and expensive. Their vape pens are garbage, however. The product in the vape pen is spectacular, but they seem to have been screwed by whomever they tapped to make their vape cartridges. They do not offer refillable bulk oil. You have to buy their lousy, branded vape device. It clogs and leaks and stops working well before you are done with the contents. New York medicinal cannabis is crazy expensive, so this just is not ethical. Add to this that when you finish with the cartridge, you throw it away. Environmentally a terrible product. Everything else they make is great. Their dispensaries are clean and comfortable, but not sterile or pretentious. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I use them when I can afford their products. I will never buy their vape pens again, however. I'm against inhaling vapor or smoke, anyway. It will be nice when New York State allows people to cultivate at home and make their own products. In places like Colorado, a patient on limited means can infuse coconut oil for a fraction of the price of a typical New York allowed product. For the price of one of eTain's tinctures ($165), a person could make two months worth of edible coconut oil, at home...if it were allowed. Once New Jersey and New York allow recreational cannabis, I'm afraid this amazing little gem of a business will be struggling. I wish them luck. Sorry they seem to have been stuck with a ton of branded vape cartridges that suck.

I bought the pre filled flower container product, along with it having the absolute worst taste, it didn't too too much either. thanks for wasting my time

Great location, even better product. I've only used the vape Forte (high THC) so far, and i am satisfied on all levels of the product and it administration.

I’ve been to Etain twice now to fill my prescription. I’m extremely happy with the results of the Balance capsules. The staff are caring, helpful & knowledgeable. The space is inviting without the typical, tired stoner art. It’s a beautifully designed Manhattan boutique selling high-quality products. It’s expensive, but I’ve had lots of top-shelf cannabis and this is some of the best medicine available so it’s definitely worth the cost.

Was not welcoming at all the product is garbage the vape pen and cartridge does not even work properly the cartridge has been leaking the whole time I would not recommend going here go to curaleaf they are the best this place does not even offer u a discount and anything as a new client either never again

I would recommend that Etain, and other dispensaries, have organized and structured educational sessions for their clients. There is so much information out there, especially now that recreational marijuana has been approved. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further.

My first NY dispensary experience was at Etain. The office and service was great. The vape pen definitely works immediate and I really like that the oils aren't mixed with anything. The prices are a little high but they do offer deals sometimes.

I got the ground flower (blackberry and sour tangie) and dolce XL capsules. The flower has good quality and taste. They were considerate of the packaging, because the jar is beautiful and there's a terpene shield packet inside. The dolce XL capsules are okay, but I would like something else stronger for chronic migraines. Great customer service and beautiful store!

Poor quality products - they sold me two leaky carts. For the prices they charge the products need to be higher quality. Also- be sure to check the volume of their carts - you think you’re getting .5 gram cart but it’s actually .4 grams. There is a reason the descriptions are so vague - they’re a cheap business

The team at Etain is the best! It is amazing to have such great product in a location easily to get to (and they have delivery too). The prices may seem high, however I can ensure you they have the best product and last much longer than some other dispensaries. Go team Etain!! You are wonderful!

My first visit here was exceptional. First timers need to make an appointment (you can get then same day), and speak with their in-house pharmacist regarding your medical condition and goals for treatment. The pharmacist was friendly, upbeat, and extremely helpful/patient in explaining the different product forms and THC:CBD of each. That you’re able to discuss current or past therapies with someone with certified knowledge of same puts Etain above and beyond other dispensaries. This location is clean, secure, welcoming, and easy to reach. MMJ in NYS is costly, no matter where you shop; many dispensaries will offer a first-time, Medicare/Medicaid, Senior or other discount—so ask! Why is it costly? Quality, standardized, regulated anything is expensive to make. But much of the fault lies in how NYS passed a restrictive MMJ legalization law—just as NJ had. Your electeds need to hear from you regarding this law, and how breadth of product type and pricing are important to you. Please speak up, and advocate for all!

I have been a huge fan of Etain in Manhattan for quite some time. Their product was spot on and their flower used to always be the correct weight; never under usually over. But here lately the flower is short and they aren’t carrying the strains that facilitated my switch to this dispensary. I’m not sure what happened but whatever it is, I hope it’s rectified soon. Previously, I would have said only buy here, if you have your medical card but somehow I can’t say that now because they may not have what you need. (This is specifically about flower) And as a pain and anxiety sufferer, that just doesn’t cut it.

Have been using this dispensary for 2 years and I must say the quality and variety does not compare. The prices are great but most of all the staff both via phone and at the store are really nice and welcome . They always give the most valuable advice . They customer point system is also really good allowing you to accumulate points to go toward your next purchase . My favorite dispensary in NYC, I just wish they had a location in Brooklyn .

There's a broad range of products to choose from, giving the patient plenty of options. Staff was super friendly and knowledgable. Great location, only a few blocks from Grand Central.

The new location is super nice and has a lot of commute options nearby. I’ve been twice and the same guy working the counter was there both times and he is the best. I want to come back just to talk to him. The products are not the best in my honest opinion. I’ve tried the lozenges that didn’t do anything for me, the small forte vape which had nothing in it pretty much and now the ground flower that smelled nice but was dry as straw. In their defense when I did have a problem with my vape they gave me an exchange for a new product, so customer service is a strong suit of theirs, but the exchange was for a product that wasn’t much better so take that as you want. All in all you probably won’t catch me back in here despite how nice the employee and building are.

Wonderful staff and excellent quality product. I wish they offered more variety with product with terpenes. Also their prices are way too high.
