Planting
Select a clean container with drainage holes. Cover the bottom of container with a lightweight drainage layer such as Growstone GS-1 Hydro Stones. Partially fill container with GS-4 Moisture Coco Mix. Place root ball and fill container with GS-4 Moisture Coco Mix up to 1” to 2” from rim. Press gently around stem. Water thoroughly.

Repotting
When plants are root bound, repot into larger container. Turn container upside down and tap to loosen soil and roots. Place in larger container following directions for Planting. Water thoroughly. Not a fertilizer or nutrient substitute. Addition of fertilizer is necessary when planting and/or repotting. Consult your local hydroponic store or garden center on nutrient regimes that will most benefit your plants. Do not fertilize before plants have established roots.

Notes For Beginner Gardeners
Plants are mostly water and need ample oxygen for healthy growth. Roots supply water and oxygen to the plants. Since both water and air (oxygen) move in, through and out of soil, water retention, drainage, and aeration are important considerations of any potting mix. The use of Growstones significantly increases air spaces, improving oxygen diffusion to the roots. It also helps store and move water through the soil.

Growstones keep soil loose, well drained and aerated
If the soil is poorly drained or tightly packed, oxygen is cut off from the roots, reducing plant growth. Whenever a plant is watered, air is forced out. In a loose, porous planting mix, as water drains out, fresh air is drawn in and ready to be used by roots. Growstones enhance the porosity of the planting mix, helping plants get the balance of fresh air and water needed for vigorous growth.

Planting
Select a clean container with drainage holes. Cover the bottom of the container with a lightweight drainage layers such as Growstone Hydroponic Growth Medium. Fill the container with GS-3 up to a height no greater than your plant root ball. Place the root ball on the container, and fill the remaining container volume with GS-3 up to 1” to 2” from the rim. Press gently around the stem, and water thoroughly.

Repotting
When plants are root bound, its time to repot. For continued growth, repot into a larger container. Thoroughly water the plant and turn the container upside down while tapping gently on the bottom of the container to loosen soil and roots. Once the plant is out, remove all the old discolored roots. Gently break up the remaining roots to promote new growth. Repot in larger container by following the planting directions. Water thoroughly.

Growstone GS-3 Aeration Coco Mix™ is a mixture of Growstones and Coco coir with added Mycorrhizae.

Growstone LIFT is the ideal drainage layer for all your indoor and outdoor plants. Simply add LIFT to the bottom of your container and breathe fresh air into your roots. A high-performance drainage layer is especially important if your plants are grown in plastic containers or with saucers underneath which can trap excess moisture and create a soggy root zone.

LIFT allows air to enter the inner core of your roots helping them dry evenly and allows excess water to drain away. These highly porous large stones are lightweight, clean, and provide superior water-holding capacity and aeration to roots. The best part is they are made in the USA from 100% recycled glass!

Nothing is more important to plant growth than having an ample supply of oxygen to plant roots. Oxygen helps roots absorb nutrients faster and can considerably increase plant growth rate.

Growstone® LIFT is the ideal drainage layer for all your indoor and outdoor plants. 

Growstones aggregates are engineered to provide an effective ratio between aeration and moisture to any hydroponic system. While other substrates maximize either air or moisture, Growstones are designed to allow for both moisture absorption and drainage. Most important in any growing medium is the air in the medium after drainage. Plant roots require air (particularly oxygen) for respiration and growth. Growstone aggregates make for an ideal hydroponic substrate due to its small and large pores. When the substrate is irrigated, water is held in the micro pores but quickly drains through the macro pores, allowing fresh air to flow through the substrate, which brings oxygen to the roots and removes carbon dioxide from the root zone.
