Aurora Borealis

One of the heaviest strains I've tried, but with enough mood-elevation to keep you out of the swamp. I medicate mostly for insomnia and inflammation, and have found AB to be absolutely perfect for both. It packs a fantastic indica body high that's ideal for both serious pain and post-exercise soreness (and especially as a pre-sleep hoot). Its cognitive effects are a bit mixed, but in a very entertaining way. I found there was a sweet spot with speech, preferring relaxed conversation with only a friend or partner--it's definitely not social weed. The batch I tried felt madly potent, so much so that any latent creativity-enhancing effects stayed just that, leaving me very peaceful but a little foggy. It is wonderfully positive though, and anxiolytic. AB's flavor is simple, clean, and sweet, sort of a faintly sugary bamboo version of Hashplant. AB has a pronounced freshness but avoids most of the stronger earth notes, making it especially nice in handheld vaporizers (less of that roast spinach flavor toward the end.

Purple Kush

Purple Kush is in many ways an archetypal Kush strain. I've found its high sedating, spacey, immensely pain-relieving, and emotionally neutral. That latter quality is shared by both Afghan and Hindu Kush, to which PK is sort of an Ur-high in my opinion. Less abstractly, PK comes on with a fairly heavy face high and as such makes it less social than many other indicas. I find my eyes wanting to unfocus and drift with PK, making it both wonderful for sleep and listening to music (keep a ton of food nearby though). Overall lovely and executes its more focused effects quite well. It's not the most interesting high but it's both reliable and long-lasting.
