SFV OG Kush

3/16/2016
If you've read my past reviews, I try to be specific to the strain, where it's genetics came from and my experience using and growing them. This review is for SFV OG Kush and my lower than average rating isn't because I find bad samples of this strain, it's because this strain is very difficult to cultivate consistent good samples and is a very hard strain to grow for the more experienced grower that is willing to take a risk of failure. It's a 5 star strain to use but a 1 or 2 star strain to grow with success. If you are only interested in it's use than please skip down to USE or read it all if you want info on growing and why my overall rating is not 5 stars. USE; This is an indica dominant strain in all categories. It's effects are not uplifting but they are also not the strongest either, which even though not my personal choice, I can see why it is so highly rated, especially for less experienced users. It's all subjective and one of the wonders of this plant. You could say this is a good all day indica and not just for later day use like most strong indicas. It's not the smelliest strain but I have seem a lot of inconsistency here that could be caused by the drying/curing process. The taste is also not strong with an earthy taste. This strain is unique in it's appearance as they are some of the densest nuggets I have ever seen. With the naked eye they appear to have little trichomes but under a microscope there are plenty and a good sample rates high in the three rating categories. The interior of the flowers are normally very light in color with hardly any green to them because I don't think much light penetrates them. I personally like that as I think it makes the smoke smoother from the lack of chlorophyll in a majority of the bud. GROW: OUTDOORS; I obtained the seeds direct from Cali Connection, germinated 3 and picked the best pheno, which seemed pretty consistent except for plant size and yield. This review is specific to growing outdoors where it is near impossible to grow in any high humidity environment because the buds are extremely dense and seem to have no mold or mildew resistance in them at all. My experience is along the west coast around 35*N latitude in the area's considered "Ocean Grown"(the real meaning of OG) where humidity can get high in the fall from coastal fog and rain and in the Midwest around 42*N where the humidity is consistently high with rain and dropping temps. If this plant gets rained on in the second half of flowering for any length of time an it isn't dried out with immediate early to mid day sunshine for the rest of the day, it will mold and mildew and be ruined. Even covered in a greenhouse, you can get similar problems if the humidity is high and the temps are low. I have yet to attempt a indoor grow because it is in an area with high humidity year round, even in an inside grow room and the risk reward isn't enough for me to risk it, but everyone is willing to take different risks and the 5 star reviews and it's awards are not untrue, as I have seen some excellent samples of this strain, but I have also heard a lot of similar experiences to mine. One other thing that doesn't make this good for some growers, especially if quantity is an issue for you, is that it is and indica dominant grower with very short stout plants that yield high density but a lower volume. INDOORS; I've only grown the three original plants to maturity in smaller pots and a very low humidity environment because of the small size of the room. Have not attempted a full grow and mentioned the reasons why. Overall as a strain it is 5 star if you find a nice sample but as a strain to grow yourself, I would recommend many other stains that are just as good with far less risk of failure unless you live in a dry environment like a desert in southwest US or other similar areas of the world like Spain, Australia or in an indoor environment with very good humidity control that can keep it consistently low throughout the flowering cycle.

Lemon OG

3/12/2016
This is another review of a sample I've tried and was frankly VERY unimpressed! Once again I obtained this from an Ann Arbor delivery service that isn't on Leafly. The sample came from seeds obtained from DNA Genetics and the delivery service claimed they had it tested at 31.6% THC and just this figure alone should tell you how "factual" it is. If this stuff is one of the highest THC strains around than high THC strains SUCK!!! LOL I also sampled 3 other strains from this service, Lemon Skunk and Doc's OG, both also from DNA, and although they say the THC% is less, I find them significantly better and not only that they are half the price of the Lemon OG. I'm not sure on the authenticity of the actual strain I got, but if it is what they claim it to be, than it isn't very good and definitely way overpriced. I assume the latter because there are other dispensary's in the are that sell the same strain for half the price so this leads me to believe it isn't a great strain overall, when they are charging more for other strains that are rated much higher by many more people.

Lemon Skunk

3/12/2016
If you've read my other reviews, than you know my experience but for this review I am only reviewing a strain I have sampled, Lemon Skunk by DNA Genetics, from a local delivery service in Ann Arbor(not on Leafly). This strain is amazing in it's appearance, smell and effects. It's name is a little off as there is definitely a large percent of limonene for the "lemon" in the name but there wasn't any skunk to it, at least not what I'm used to and I'm comparing it to the original skunks of the late 80's and early 90's. It's definitely a sativa dominant strain with the nice compact buds with lots of trichomes and red hairs. It's effects are all sativa as well. Smokes very smooth and has a great fruity smell and taste so you can enjoy hit after hit. It's a great daytime strain that will definitely uplift and energize you. This is actually one that I wouldn't recommend of night time use as you may not sleep. I plan to grow this over the next 6 months and will review my experience with it then.

Kosher Kush

3/11/2016
I have 40+ years experience growing and using cannabis, a masters degree in agri/horticulture from MSU and will break each review down as follows from my own personal experience with seeds or clones obtained directly from the original breeders: The strain under review is Kosher Kush by DNA genetics a.k.a. Reserva Privada. I've grown 6 of these beans and know a few other people that have as well and most of the pheno's seems to be pretty consistent with only two different one's which are almost the same, except one has a stronger odor and taste, which is as described, earthy and piney. This is an easy strain to grow in just about any situation, soil hydro, indoors or out. For as dense as the buds are, it has some good mold resistance. Like most indica dominant strains, the plants are shorter but the bids are stouter with the usual higher quality but lower yielding plant. Very high bud to leaf ratio and next to the original White Widow back in the 90's, that most people use pictures of today, it has the most frosty trim leaves of any other strain I have seen but besides that is is nothing like WW. Hang the plant to dry and again most of the trim is so frosty, you can basically leave most of it on as whatever is there is small. USE; Strong indica effects best for evening and nigh time use. Would be great for pain and insomnia and any other condition where relaxation will help. GROW; Indoors; this plant loves the SCROG method where you can get some very short plant with a lot of lateral growth or SOG if you prefer hydro. This plant takes a little longer to finish than most indicas at 9-10 weeks. This strain will tell you if you are pushing it with the nutrients by showing burnt leaf tips easily, so if you start to see them, you are giving them to many. Outdoors; She'll start to flower July 24 - Aug 7 depending on latitude and was ready on October 7th at 42*N latitude and a few days to a week earlier at 35*N latitude.

Northern Lights

I have 40+ years experience growing and using cannabis, a masters degree in agri/horticulture from MSU and will break each review down as follows from my own personal experience with seeds or clones obtained directly from the original breeders. There are many breeders selling this version of this awesome creation and although they have their differences, they are all good in their own way and are very similar unlike a lot of other old time popular strains. I have personally grown seeds from Sensi Seeds, Nirvana, and one other breeder that I am unsure of because I bought them through one of the larger seed banks about 10 years ago. All of them were similar in every category so this review applies to at least the two names mentioned and from what I have seen from other seeds obtained from other breeders, they are mostly very similar as well. There is a reason this is on the list of top 25 strains of all time and I believe its because you basically can't go wrong with this strain as far as quality and consistency. USE; The characteristics of this plant use wise are all indica with all of the physical effects one would expect from an indica. It's not a strain for the morning if you want to get anything done but it is great for those lazy days or in the evening, especially if you have sleep problems. It's a great strain for pain and insomnia. Looks and taste are average but the effects are the reason you will like this strain. There are slight differences between strains from different breeders, but most duplicate the original. GROW; Indoors; The consistency here is very good as well. The three strains from the breeders mentioned all flowered a little longer than they suggest but ht could just be my preference and I also do not use your standard 12/12 light cycle throughout the entire flowering cycle as I start it higher and decrease it with time below 12 hours. All of them took 7-8 weeks. Outdoors this strain is a champion, with high yields, high resistance to mold and other growing factors and a fairly early harvest time, being around Oct. 1st. Some may want them to go longer but in my situation and location where cold weather and people activity increases after Oct. 1st, you can plan to harvest this by then and have an A+ grade product.

GSC

3/8/2016
I have 40+ years experience growing and using cannabis, a masters degree in agri/horticulture from MSU. This review is more of a warning and a review than most of my other reviews. The review is of the actual flower which I have never produced myself but am pretty sure I have sampled the real deal. I agree with every positive review, if you indeed get the real deal but my warning is that with the exception of the flower itself and obtaining it from a reliable source, any clones or seeds that are said to be GSC are highly unlikely to be. I have seen and know of many people that paid for supposed GSC clones and seeds and none of them were GSC and actually none of them were of any quality at all, so there are a lot of people selling items claiming to be GSC when they are actually total junk. Unlike other people trying to copy the strain and producing a great strain that may not be the same but good in its own right, it seems most of the people claiming to have this strain are completely lying and selling complete junk. Now obviously this isn't the case all the time, but from what I have seen, it is the most counterfeited strain I have witnessed, so please be aware of this if you are trying to obtain clones or seeds. I would only get them from a place that has both a sample of the flower AND whatever else they are offering so you can at least see what you should expect. This is the reason I would love to have but have no experience growing, because even though I have a lot of reliable connections for many strains, this is one I have not been able to trust the source enough to commit to growing it. That doesn't mean you don't, I'm just warning people to be careful.

AK-47

3/7/2016
I have 40+ years experience growing and using cannabis, a masters degree in agri/horticulture from MSU and will break each review down as follows from my own personal experience with seeds or clones obtained directly from the original breeders, in this case Serious Seeds: - Use; Sativa effects, happy, euphoric, relaxed, great for depression, anxiety, stress, motivation and daytime use. It is a very nice strain with mostly sativa type effects, happy, euphoric, relaxed yet not to the point of making you unmotivated. If anything, it actually motivates you and it's great for daytime use. This is a perfect strain for depression, anxiety, stress, motivation and creativity. The buds are nice and dense and have a very nice fruity smell and taste with a very smooth smoke. Grow; Indoors: She can be finished in 7-8 weeks. - Outdoors: It's an excellent and a great choice if you live in a cooler area where plants need to finish earlier and you still want something with strong sativa effects. At 42*N latitude she started flowering the last week of July and was ready around the third week of September, contrary to Leafly's estimate. - Very easy to grow both indoors and out. Plants have a distinct sativa leaf that is very narrow and grow in the typical pine tree look. The best thing about this strain is it's sativa dominance in effect and look, yet it has the Afghan gene that will make her finish very fast for a sativa, with very little stretching once flowering is induced. Has a high leaf to bud ratio in volume but not by weight as there are a lot of leaves to trim but most are very small and narrow. Strain seemed very stable with little variation between phenotypes. Very similar to my AK-48 review except AK-47 will finish even sooner but is a little less aromatic.

Bubblicious

3/4/2016
I have 40+ years experience growing and using cannabis, a masters degree in agri/horticulture from MSU and will break each review down as follows from my own personal experience with seeds or clones obtained directly from the original breeders: I obtained seeds directly from Nirvana and although this strain is good in it's own way, I don't think it is anything like the original it is supposed to duplicate, original Bubblegum. I'm from the area close to where Bubblegum supposedly originated from and although I can't be 100% sure what I thought was original Bubblegum, actually is, I can say that this is nothing like my experience with Bubblegum in any way and one major trait that makes me believe I have had original Bubblegum is that it actually smells like bubblegum and Nirvana's Bubblicious does not. USE; It has a nice balanced hybrid effect. It's not going to make you want to clean your house but it also won't put you to sleep. It's in the "all day smoke" class. Good for mild effects, like making you calm and relaxed while still allowing you to fully function. Great for depression, anxiety, PTSD and any need for an uplifting happy feeling. The look smell and taste are all good but nothing noteworthy. Has an earthy, chocolate, vanilla taste that smokes smooth. GROW; Indoors, it is ready around 8-9 weeks, depending on your particular liking. It blooms quick in the first 4-5 weeks and stops a week or two before the trichomes ripen so it is crucial to use a good scope to determine the harvest time. Outdoors; At 42*N, she was ready on Oct. 4 but again basically stopped growing in early Sept. even though she wasn't mature. I also had something I have never seen before happen to this plant and that is the fungal attack of all of the fan leaves but none of the buds. I'm only assuming it was fungal because I never actually saw anything except a healthy plant at 5 weeks of flowering and than a plant with all the fan leaves dead and almost white, not from anything on them, but just all dead and light tan. Although I can't be certain as to the reason for the death of all the fan leaves, I am certain it affected the total yield and therefore, will not be growing outdoors again. This is another reason that I don't think this is anything like the original Bubblegum, because it was well known for its mold resistance.

GG4

SOON TO BE TOP !0 STRAIN OF ALL TIME!!!I have 40+ years experience growing and using cannabis, a masters degree in agri/horticulture from MSU and will break each review down as follows from my own personal experience with seeds or clones obtained directly from the original breeders. I received my clone directly from the person that entered it in the 2014 Michigan High Times Cannabis Cup, where it won for the second time taking 1st place. -USE: Hands down one of the best strains around and will soon be on the lists of the best strains of all time. One of the reasons it is so good is because it is the perfect combination of everything, Indica, Sativa, THC content, taste, smell, it's the perfect strain. It's really good for everything and can really be used all day long. I'm not even going to describe anything like effect, what it's good for, taste or potency because you can just fill them all in. The taste is amazing and like everything else, hard to describe because it like walking in a flower shop and asking what flowers you smell. All of them!!LOL -GROW: If you can get you hands on an actual cut, than there is nothing better both indoors and out. Easy to grow, great yield, mold resistance and not to long of a lowering time. Keep in mind that this strain was created by self pollination so you can expect to find hermies and seeds but they are few and far between and shouldn't bother anyone because the end product is so good. Indoors the average finish time is 9-10 depending on the amount of light used. Outdoor: at 42*N latitude it could be picked on Oct. 1st but optimum time is Oct. 10-14th. NOTE: GG4 is pretty easy to spot if you have an actual cut because it's final appearance is pretty unique. Both before picking and after drying the flowers have very few noticeable pistols/red hairs. They just look like large calyx's, covered in heavy trichomes, probably the stickiest stuff I have ever seen, hence the perfect name!

Endless Sky

A SHOT IN THE DARK!!! I have 40+ years experience growing and using cannabis, a masters degree in agri/horticulture from MSU and will break each review down as follows from my own personal experience with seeds or clones obtained directly from the original breeders: First I have to start out by saying that this and most strains from Greenthumb are complete shots in the dark as far as consistency. You can get 10 Feminized seeds and get 10 totally different plants from A+(5*****) to F, most low grade but you can find an amazing strain once in a while and I say "strain" and not phenotype because I believe that they are completely different genetically. That being said, this rating is for the best strain/pheno I found and what I believe to be the strain they advertise as it has all of the qualities they dewscribe. -USE; Indica effects, euphoric, relaxed, sleepy, great for pain, anxiety, stress, insomnia and late day use. The plant I grew was very indica like in looks with very dense earthy smelling buds with lots of trichomes. GROW; Indoors: She can be finished in 6-7 weeks. - Outdoors: If you find the right strain, it is an excellent early finishing plant but again they can vary greatly and I had some auto flower, looking nothing as described to stuff that looked, smelled and had the quality of hemp. At 42*N latitude the best plant started flowering in mid July and was ready on September 20th, which is awesome if you need an early finisher in your location. - Very easy to grow both indoors and out if you get the right plant Plants have a distinct Indica leaf that is very wide and grow bushy but the plants can get rather large for an Indica. Strain seemed very very unstable and IMO it isn't worth the risk to pay the price he charges for a 1 in 10 shot at getting what he describes, I did give it 3 stars because that 1 in 10 shot, if found, is a very nice plant.
