For many people who consume cannabis on a regular basis in any form, drug tests (and the potential consequences of failing) can hang out in the back of the mind.

Though many of us now live in states where cannabis consumption is decriminalized or legal, some employers still require scheduled drug tests or implement randomized drug tests. Not to mention that all positions working for the federal government require drug testing, and operate in accordance with federal law (which does not recognize cannabis as legal, regardless of state laws).

Given these realities, it’s essential that you know how to pass a drug test, or else risk losing your job.

While there are numerous options to help you detox and get THC out of your system, knowledge is power, and it helps to know where you stand. Enter at-home drug tests, which allow you to check your THC levels and either go into your official test with confidence or understand that you need to detox more thoroughly.

Never used an at-home test and not sure where to start? This article will give you everything you need to know to make sure you understand the process and are ready to test without fear of failure.

What is an at-home drug test

An at-home drug test is exactly what it sounds like: a test you can perform at home in order to check the presence of substances in your system.

By far the most common type of drug test used by employers today is the urine test, so most at-home drug test products are designed with this in mind. Other (less common) options include hair follicle drug tests (which are rapidly becoming more popular), blood tests (which are generally used for special purposes and very accurate), and saliva tests (which are less accurate and usually used for more on-the-fly situations, such as roadside testing).

At-home urine test kits consist of a test strip that you use with a urine sample, allowing you to read (through the strip) whether or not THC shows up in your urine. While the results of at-home tests do not count for official purposes, they do allow users to figure out their basic urine toxicity levels, and better prepare for official tests.

What drugs does it test for

Looking across the market, home test kits are available for detecting a wide range of substances. You can test for the presence of everything from THC, alcohol, amphetamines, cocaine, opiates, ecstasy, and even nicotine.

Anything that does not immediately pass through your system can be caught, as long as you’re using the right (and reliable) test kit.  For our purposes, however, we are most concerned with home test kits for THC. THC home test kits allow cannabis consumers to accurately identify THC levels present in their urine in their efforts to prepare for formal third-party tests.

Steps to using an at-home drug test

Using an at-home drug test is simple. Like most tests that you will encounter, they function by testing THC levels in urine. These home tests only take a few minutes to complete and are simple to do yourself.

Ready to get started? After depositing a urine sample in a cup:

  1. Remove the cap from the test strip and immerse the strip into the cup of urine.
  2. Wait for the “C” line to appear, then take the test strip out.
  3. Put the cap back on the test strip and lay it on a flat surface.
  4. Finally: read the results after five minute have passed.

Remember that timing is important here. You need to wait five minutes to read the test, but not try to interpret it after ten minutes, as the reading will no longer be accurate.

And that’s it! How did your test turn out?

Test-O-Meter

The Test-O-Meter offered by PassYourTest.com is a top pick among at-home test kits if you need to make absolutely sure that there are no traces of THC left in your system.

Most kits only offer single-panel testing, looking for one concentration of THC. The Test-O-Meter is a five-panel test, meaning it covers the industry standard concentration of THC 50 ng/mL, as well as other concentrations of THC 15, 100, 200, and 300 ng/ML, giving you a full-spectrum read of your toxicity levels.

For this reason, it’s recognized as one of the most sensitive at-home THC tests on the market and guarantees 99% accuracy.

Available in two-test, three-test, and five-test packs, the Test-O-Meter allows plenty of options for accurately testing levels and measuring progress to help make sure you can test clean when the time comes.

If your results still show toxicity levels, PassYourTest.com has detox products and personalized programs available to help you meet your cleansing goals. Rather than rely on risky detoxing methods like niacin, vinegar, or Certo, make sure you are using trusted detox solutions and programs to cleanse your system of unwanted toxins.

Notably, PassYourTest.com also makes a single-panel home testing kit for THC, as well as a nicotine testing kit.

Drug tests can be nerve-wracking, but they don’t have to be. Using high-quality and accurate at-home tests from PassYourTest can ease your anxiety and help you know where you stand, so you can prepare and take your official drug test free of worry.
