The clear quartz layers' main function is to provide a larger heated surface area for those massive dabs, allowing for an increased consumption of concentrates, and a bigger airway for creating those huge clouds you may be looking for. The heating elements are not exposed because they are located on the inside of the clear quartz tube mitigating the chance of burning through your concentrates instead of vaporizing them.
